Nim Ensemble
The NIM Ensemble (an acronym for Nuovi Itinerari Musicali / New Musical Itineraries) is a group with a distinctly eclectic identity, born from the encounter of performers united by deep artistic curiosity and a musical practice that transcends the boundaries between eras, languages, and traditions. Its repertoire spans centuries of musical history, from the medieval visions of Hildegard von Bingen to the most recent contemporary creations, in programs that bring together composition and creative freedom, tradition and experimentation.
The NIM Ensemble is the resident ensemble of the MAXIMA Festival in Bologna, of which it represents the musical soul, bringing to the stage, edition after edition, a musical dialogue between different eras and languages.
Through programs that alternate historical masterpieces, premieres, and moments of improvisation, the NIM Ensemble offers a dynamic and immersive listening experience, in which music manifests itself as a living organism: a meeting place between memory and invention, contemplation and experimentation, tradition and future.
Giulia Zaniboni - Soprano
Giulia Zaniboni is a singer renowned for her versatility and ability to master a repertoire that spans classical, contemporary, and popular music.
Graduated in opera singing from the Conservatory of Parma, she has established herself on international stages through her nuanced interpretations and expertise in the repertoire of the 20th and 21st centuries.
Her performances reflect a deep engagement with this repertoire, which includes masterpieces by iconic 20th-century composers as well as works written expressly for her by emerging composers.
She has premiered significant works, including Instrumental Freak Show by G. Verrando at the Venice Biennale Musica (2020) and Silenzio/Silence by A. Sowa, which inaugurated the OPER.A Festival of the Haydn Foundation (2022). That same year, she won the third edition of the International Contemporary Music Interpretation Competition at the Reate Festival, further solidifying her reputation as an interpreter of contemporary repertoire.
Her collaborations with esteemed ensembles, such as Klangforum Wien, Sentieri Selvaggi, mdi ensemble, and Ensemble Interface, have led her to perform at major festivals, including Wien Modern, Lucerne Festival, Salzburger Festspiele, Milano Musica, and Ravenna Festival. In 2024, she performed, with Cantando Admont, Beat Furrer’s opera Begehren under the composer’s direction, in several prominent international festivals.
She is currently pursuing an artistic PhD in Practices and Repertoires of Modern and Contemporary Music, with a research that focuses on the role of the performer as a mediator in contemporary music, exploring innovative approaches to engaging audiences with this repertoire.
Laura Bersani - Flute
Since 2013 she plays steadily in AltreVoci Ensemble specializing in the repertoire of the twentieth century and contemporary music. Concerts at: Teatro dell’Arte della Triennale in Milan, Teatro Grande in Brescia, Teatro Fraschini in Pavia, Teatro Ariosto in Reggio Emilia for Dialoghi sul Comporre Festival, EstOvest Festival, Gioventù Musicale Italiana, Musica al Tempio in Milan, Festival Internazionale di Musica Sacra in Pordenone, Serate Musicali in Milan, Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte in Montepulciano, International Mugham center in Baku, Edward Said National Conservatory in Jerusalem and Balcan Contemporary Music Festival in Tirana.
In 2019 she was soloist at Teatro Comunale Luciano Pavarotti in Modena conducted by Carlo Boccadoro, whose she performed Box of paints for flute and ensemble. In the same concert she also played the world premiere of Ljust, a composition dedicated to AltreVoci by Mauro Montalbetti.
In the same year, she plays a recital for solo flute “From piccolo to bass flute” at Museo del Novecento in Milan, for NoMus and Società del Quartetto. In 2022 she played with Sentieri Selvaggi Ensemble at Teatro Elfo-Puccini in Milan, with Ensemble Prometeo conducted by Marco Angius at Teatro Farnese for Festival Traiettorie in Parma and with Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto. In 2021 she gave a masterclass entitled “The four flutes, instructions to use” at “F. Vittadini” Conservatory of Pavia; of 2022 was a masterclass for composers at Salotto in Prova in Milan.
She graduated under the guidance of Rocco Abate at “G. Verdi” Conservatory in Milan and graduated with full marks at the university degree at ISSM “O. Vecchi” in Modena with Michele Marasco, Andrea Oliva and Gabriele Betti.
Rocco Castellani - Double bass
Rocco Federico Castellani was Born in Milan on 22/12/1995. In March 2021 he Graduated in Double Bass at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in Rome, in the class of Daniele Roccato.
In 2017 he joined Ludus Gravis ensemble. He performed as a member of the ensemble in many international festivals, such as "Rassegna di Nuova Musica" in Macerata, “Suså Festival” in Næstved in Denmark, "Note Nuove" in Madrid (Italian Cultural Institute), "Festival Barocco Alessandro Stradella” in Nepi, “Bologna Modern Festival” in Bologna, Striscia di Terra Feconda” in Rome, Auditorium Parco della Musica, “Della morte e del morire” in Vorno, Tenuta Dello Scompiglio, "Festival ArteScienza” in Rome, Goethe Institut and “Piediluco Festival” in Piediluco.
In 2020 he also collaborated with Ludus Gravis Ensemble, on a recording of "In D" by Terry Riley/Stefano Scodanibbio at the Auditorium Parco della Musica, published for the label "Parco della Musica Records". During the years 2017, 2018 he performed in many Italian theaters with the "Orchestra Nazionale dei Conservatori Italiani", and since 2019 he is a member of “LaFil, Filarmonica di Milano”, conducted by Daniele Gatti.
In the field of improvisation, he had the opportunity to attend workshops and masterclasses with artists such as Fabrizio Ottaviucci, Michele Rabbia, Bruno Chevillon, Marc Ducret, Roscow Mitchell. In 2021 he was selected as a member of the Lucerne Festival Academy. With the Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra he performed at KKL in Lucerne and ad Berlin Philarmonie in Berlin in 2021, and at Elb Philarmonie in Hamburg in 2022. In 2022, he was selected to participate to the project “Chantiers Sonores”: a musical project, a permanent experimental laboratory. The project involves musicians from the most diverse musical fields. During 2022 he studied with Nicolas Crosse at the Paris National Superior Conservatory. During that period he collaborated with “Ensemble Les Possibles” and performed with Orchestre du conservatoire de Paris at the Paris Philharmonie under the direction of Kirill Karabits.
Enrico Scaccaglia - Composer/Conductor
Enrico Scaccaglia (b. 1989, Parma) is an acclaimed Italian composer whose music is distinguished by its dramaturgical intensity and narrative power. His creative voice is shaped by what he calls a “theatrical approach”: musical ideas are treated as characters that interact, evolve, and transform within a dramatic sound world.
Born in Parma, Scaccaglia grew up exploring a wide range of musical styles — from blues and progressive rock to jazz and post-rock — before turning to classical composition, inspired early on by Beethoven and Stravinsky and later deeply influenced by Luciano Berio’s work. Scaccaglia’s output spans the full spectrum of contemporary music genres, from solo works to large orchestral compositions.
His music has been commissioned and performed by esteemed ensembles and orchestras including the Orchestra Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Orchestra Carlo Felice di Genova, Malmö Symphony Orchestra, Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Filarmonica Toscanini, Musica Vitae String Orchestra, Molinari String Quartet, Gageego! Ensemble and SoloDuo among others.
He has won numerous prestigious awards, including first prize in the “Luciano Berio International Composition Competition” as well as top honors at the “Vienna World Composition Award” (both chamber and
categories), first prize at the “32nd Young Musician International Competition Città di Barletta”, second prize at the “4th European Composer Competition”, and third prize at the “Molinari Quartet’s 8th International Composition Competition”.
Scaccaglia is also an active educator, serving on the composition faculty at the “Conservatory “F. Morlacchi” in Perugia”, where he mentors the next generation of composers. His works are published by “Universal Edition (Vienna) and BabelScores (Paris).
